About Louise Richardson

A designer and publisher of unique greeting cards, which have a beautiful, playful and illustrative style with hand drawn typography.

Why did you start making your products?

I had a friend who wanted me to design her a thank you card for anyone who came to her engagement party. I designed her something bespoke with details of their party in the design, and I put my Two For Joy 'pretend brand' on the back for fun - I got the bug from there!

What inspires your products or collections?

I like to think of clever, playful ways to create a greeting card - it's such a special way of sharing your love, well wishes or appreciation for someone and so I try to go the extra mile. Whether it's a card that is designed to look like a book, or a children's card with a project on the back or perhaps a heart felt illustration, paired with a beautiful coloured envelope, it's all considered and so my cards are ''design-led' in a sense.

What is the best thing someone has said about your products?

'This will be PERFECT for my sister/friend/mum/dad' - I love that feeling.

What is your favourite product/collection, and why?

Probably my Bookish collection at the moment, but it changes all the time. Each was a labour of love and I like to talk about them too.

What does a dream day of making look like to you?

Making is only about 5% of the job sadly! But if I got to make all day, I'd be illustrating, with my headphone on and coffee on tap, up in my studio wrapped in a blanket. I have so many ideas in my brain, it would be lovely to have a whole day to explore them.

How do you make your products more sustainable?

I'm really proud of the sustainability of my products. All my greeting cards are made in a planet-friendly factory in Kent, England. They are solar powered, they recycle all scraps and all of their presses are carbon neutral. They even ban single plastics in the work place and provide all staff with reusable bottles, which is a nice touch. I also make an impact by making to order, ensuring minimal waste, and I ship in second-use boxes where possible.

How do you want your products to make people feel?

Joyful! Your words are wrapped in my illustrations, popped into an envelope and sent on its merry way to make someone smile.
