About Lorna Syson

An independent designer based in rural Oxfordshire creating uplifting nature-inspired patterns and designs. The designs transport the viewer to witness the world through Lorna’s lens, inviting them to find the beauty overlooked in their everyday.

Why did you start making your products?

When I left university I was unable to find a job. I started my business with the princes trust to get experience before trying to find a job but have fallen in love with my work

What inspires your products or collections?

I'm inspired by the native flora and fauna found in the British countryside. I love the garden birds which visit the garden and love the idea of bringing the small moments and memories in nature into designs for the home and stationery. I'm also really inspired by my lovely rescue dog Jenkins, he's now 11 years old and was the entire reason I started my pet collections

What is the best thing someone has said about your products?

I love it when people see my illustrations and it reminds them of their dogs. I've had really emotional responses.

What is your favourite product/collection, and why?

I love the wrapping papers, they bring a real smile to people's faces and the wrapping paper makes every gift feel even more special

How does your local area impact what you make?

I take inspiration every-time I head outdoors, locally or if we head out to different parts of the UK on holiday

What does a dream day of making look like to you?

A beautiful pet portrait commission working with a super cute dog where the owner is allowing me to add this into to my greeting card and wrapping paper collection and knowing how much others will love the pet!

How do you make your products more sustainable?

Everything is printed in the UK on FSC certified paper, I don't have fast turn over of products and designs so there is very little waste. Items sent plastic free if requested and all the card cellos are biodegradable

What is the most important thing about your practice?

Love, fun, design, colour

What is your favourite thing about making that you don't get to talk about very often?

I'm lucky I get to share most of the things I love about my work!

How do you want your products to make people feel?

Happy, excited, joy, love
