So what is Handmade Design?
Located in the heart of Derbyshire, Handmade Design is an independent gift shop. Since opening in 2015, we have been championing small businesses across the UK.
What products does our gift shop have?
Selling a diverse range of locally sourced products, we have distinguished ourselves as a staple of Ashbourne’s high street. We stock high-quality products from over 70 designers and are relied upon by town residents, tourists, and small enterprises alike. Without Handmade Design, many of the brands we stock would have no way to sell their amazing products.

Why did we win this award?
Laura Cooper, the owner since 2018, is proud to continue promoting products that are as green as they are gorgeous. Judges from the prestige awards were impressed by our balance of price and quality.
“It is important to us, that the products we offer are affordable for all. You can come in and purchase a card and a gift for £10 and feel like you’ve brought something special.”
She added: “We’re often told how refreshing it is to visit a shop like ours and be able to afford to purchase something – however small that purchase may be!”
Praised by our customers for our “first-class” customer service, the business has been thriving. This is partially thanks to our web store, featuring over 550 passionately made products. This boasts a variety of products, from cards to candles and chocolates to coasters.
What’s next for Ashbourne’s award winning gift shop?
Supporting three staff members, Handmade Design may be a small business, but it is one with huge dreams.
As a result of our Ashbourne gift shop’s growth and popularity, there is always the possibility of expansion.
