Are handmade soaps safe to use on your skin?
Lots of us are turning to handmade soaps in a bid to become more environmentally friendly but we need to be sure what we are switching to is safe.
Our Soaps
All our soaps are made by Lisa at Elsie Moss Botanical. They are all cruelty free, vegan and contain no palm oil, parabens or SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate). They are made use natural, botanical ingredients and steam distilled essential oils.
Lisa keeps a Product Information File (PIF) for each product and the ingredients used, as well as recording batch numbers.
The Laws
In the UK, there are strict laws around selling skincare and beauty products. All soaps should have a Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR). A CPRS is a legal document which is provided by a chemist. In order to be issued with a CPRS, the recipe and ingredients have to be checked in detail to make sure the correct processes are followed and the quantities of each ingredient are safe. It is worth noting, this process can be lengthy and expensive.
To be sure a handmade soap is safe to use on your skin, always check the maker is aware of a CPSR!
There is also clear legalisation on the labelling of products too.
So the bottom line is, that handmade soaps are perfectly safe!
