Why choose Soy Wax over Paraffin Wax?
There are so many benefits to burning a natural wax over Paraffin Wax. That’s why we only stock handmade candles and wax melts that are made from Soy Wax or Coco-soy Wax.
Soy Wax is 100% natural and non-toxic. It is basically made from soybeans! It’s a sustainable and environmentally friendly choice as opposed to Paraffin Wax which is made from petroleum oil.
A common assumption is that every candle and wax melt is made from the same ingredients and that they all release harmful chemicals when burnt. This isn’t actually the case with Soy Wax. With it being a natural material it doesn’t release toxic chemicals. Burning Paraffin Wax is totally different – there are a large number of studies to show the burning Paraffin Wax releases a number of toxic compounds including acetone, benzene and toluene.
It is common for people to complain of headaches when burning candles. Again, this is typical with Paraffin Wax as it’s linked to the chemicals that are being released into the air. We’ve actually received feedback directly from some of our customers to say that they’ve noticed since switching to our Ethel & Co candles that they no longer experience headaches when burning candles!
There are also lots of studies that suggests that Soy Wax also burns 25%-50% longer. This is largely down to it burning at a cooler temperature. So, even though buying a Soy Wax Candle is typically more expensive than Paraffin, it is actually a more economical choice as it lasts much longer.
Soy Wax Candles will also give a much cleaner burn than Paraffin Candles, without giving off any unwanted smells. All candles will produce some soot but with natural wax it is very little when compared to Paraffin Wax Candles.
So why choose Soy Wax over Paraffin? Well it’s 100% natural, eco-friendly and doesn’t release any nasties! Oh and it’s vegan friendly too!
Our Ethel & Co Candles and Wax Melts are actually made from Coconut Soy Wax (Coco-soy) – this is a blend of coconut wax and soy wax. By blending the two waxes together, it increases the scent throw whilst giving all the above benefits. It burns at an even cooler temperature than Soy Wax!
