An independent gift shop located in the heart of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. We are situated just off the main road on a cute, little cobbled square.

Our store is the home of all things handmade. We stock unique and interesting products that have been lovingly designed and handcrafted in the UK. We stock an every growing range of handmade products and are proud to be stocking over 70 UK Designers, Makers and Crafters.

Handmade Design first opened its doors back in 2015.

An exciting new chapter started back in October 2018, when the shop changed ownership and Laura became the new face behind Handmade Design.

Laura has been passionate about handmade crafts since a young age. Many years ago when she was just 16, Laura started her creative journey and began making jewellery from vintage buttons alongside her full time job. Over the years, she's tried her hand at many different crafts - often describing herself as 'a jack of all trades and a master of none!'.

Fast forward ten years and Laura had the opportunity to live out her childhood dream of owning her own little shop! Looking back now, the opportunity could only be described as fate. After leaving her sales career, Laura went back to making and began selling her creations in Handmade Design. She had no idea what was coming and that six months later she would be the new owner!

As Handmade Design has grown over the last few years, Laura has taken a step back from making and focuses her time on supporting other small businesses. She still manages to scratch her creative itch through creating shop window displays and social media posts. Laura also likes to design her own products too - these are usually inspired by the local Derbyshire dialect.

Supporting Small UK Businesses

It is important to us that we sell products that have been made in the UK. Our aim is to keep things as local as possible, with a large proportion of our products being made in Derbyshire and the surrounding counties.

By stocking other small UK businesses, it means we know exactly where each item comes from and who's made it! It's more environmentally friendly and allows us to reduce our carbon footprint.
